Accessibility
We, at the USC UCEDD do our best to maintain a website that is accessible to all users
by:
- Maintaining a high contrast between background and text colors
- This makes text easily visible and easy to read for everyone
- Giving all important images alternate text and titles
- Alternate text is read by screen readers in order to describe an image
- Titles appear when an image won’t load properly. They also pop-up when you hover your mouse over an image.
- Making links underlined and blue so that they stand out from the rest of the text
- Highlighting selectable items (links and navigation buttons) whenever the mouse rolls over them
- Enabling the “tab feature for scrolling through the site
- When you visit our page, if you hit the “tab” key, you will be able to “scroll” through the links/buttons of our page. The current link you are “on” will be clear because it will either be highlighted in yellow (for text links) or outlined with a black dotted box (for image links)
- If you pass by a link and want to go back to it, hold the “shift” key while hitting “tab” and you will go backwards through the order
- To select a link, hit “Enter” on your keyboard

- Providing an “Accessibility Toolbar” in the top right-hand corner of our site:
- Skip to Sub-Navigation: This is a helpful button for screen reader users. When you select this button, you will skip to the first item in the left-hand navigation (sub-navigation). This way you won’t have to waste time listening to the screen reader, list all of the items that appear before the sub-navigation buttons, if you already know what sub-navigation button you want to select.
- Skip to Content: This is another helpful button for users of screen readers. It skips directly to the content of the page, so you won’t have to listen to the screen reader, read everything on the page that comes before the content, such as all navigation items and page banner information.
- All of the following adjust the font size for the content part of the site. Whatever font size you set the site to will remain in effect for every page of the site for your visit. When you quit out of your browser and then go back into the site, the font size will return to the default.
- A - : Decreases the font size in the content part of the page. Each successive selection of this button will continue to decrease the font size.
- A : Resets the font size of the content portion of our site back to the default
- A + : Increases the font size of the content part of the page. Each successive selection of this button will continue to increase the font size.
- Each of the content sections of our page has three icons at the top of the section:
- Print/Save the page content to a PDF
- Print the page content to a printer
- Send a link to the current page via email
- We have a “Search” field in the upper left-hand corner of every page. This feature is always located in the same place and appears on every page of our site, to make it easy to find.
- To “zoom-in” for the entire site, hit “Ctrl” and the “+” (on a PC) or “Command” and “+” (on a MAC). You can continue to zoom in, by continuing to hit these buttons in succession.
- To “zoom-out” for the entire site, hit “Ctrl” and the “-” (on a PC) or “Command” and “-” (on a MAC). You can continue to zoom out, by continuing to hit these buttons in succession.
- To return to the normal zoom level, hit “Ctrl” and the “0” (zero) (on a PC) or “Command” and “0” (zero)(on a MAC).
We strive to keep our site well-organized, easy to navigate, and easy to access for everyone. If you notice something on our site that makes it difficult for you or someone you know to use, please send us an email at,
