Prevention and early intervention are important part of the philosophy of the CHILD Center faculty and staff. We believe that all children should reach their potential and that the earlier we begin comprehensive interdisciplinary interventions the more likely this goal will be reached for each individual child.
Corazon de la Familia, a home-visiting program for infants at risk, is an example of a CHILD project that begins shortly after birth. We also have multiple Head Start contracts to provide interdisciplinary consultation around mental health and nutrition issues. Child Health-Works, funded by Los Angeles First 5, is a collaborative project between the CHILD Center, the Department of Mental Health, and Los Angeles Unified School District, to assure that underserved pre-school children in day care receive preventive screening and services.
Clinic-based services include the interdisciplinary Feeding Development Clinic where young children with issues around feeding receive assessment and treatment, and the Tech for Tots program whose aim is to provide young children with the tools they need to interact with their environments.
