Continuing Medical Education Training for Primary Care Providers Serving Children with Special Health Care Needs in Rural & Frontier Communities in California Utilizing Telehealth Technology

This project, funded by the California Consumer Protection Foundation (CCPF), addressed the Foundation's goal of increasing access to health services for children with special needs/disabilities in rural communities in CA.

The project employed the use of distance learning technology telehealth/telemedicine (TH/TM)] to provide continuing medical education (CME) and continuing education units (CEU) to rural providers (physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and other allied health professionals).

The project reached out to at least six rural community hospitals and provide technical assistance (where needed) to utilize TH/TM equipment within the hospital for conducting at least six, one and one-half hour training seminars on pediatric topics, presented by physicians, which responded to rural provider training needs.
